My Nourishing Liquid Feast Week

I have stacks of books on health, I mean like nearly 150, but about 50 of them I have bought in the last few years, have never been read, but I keep buying more.

It’s not for want of trying to read them, it’s just finding or making the time to sit down and read a book isn’t that easy with 4 children, homeschooling and running a business.

So I decided to get into audio books, trainings and podcasts instead, which has be a revolution! My studies have gone from 1-2hrs a week to 5-6hrs plus, just by plugging in my mp3 player and getting on with the house work. It’s great!

Among other things, I’ve been drawn towards natural cancer treatments and post pregnancy nutrition, and after listening to hours of information on those topics, I realised that since having my children (5 in total) I’ve never taken the time to very specifically rebuild my nutrient levels. I also listened to the world renowned Charlotte Gerson from The Gerson Institute talking about their approach to curing cancer and other diseases, which was to mega dose their patients with large quantities of organic fresh juices as a main part of the program, to give their bodies all the nutrients needed to rebalance and heal themselves from their disease.

They give cancer patients 13x 8oz glasses of fresh vegetable and fruit juice daily for 3 months among other things.

Now, I don’t know about you, but the thought of having 13 glasses of fresh vegetable and fruit juice daily brings a big smile to my face. ! feel 13 glasses of it would be too much of a sugar rush (as most of their were apple and carrot),but 1 is ok.

So I decided to treat myself to a 5 day nourishing liquid feast, to boost my nutrient levels with food and just enjoy some really delicious drinks.

So during the last 5 days, I’ve had

Jelly coconut water and meat – such a wonderful treat, even if the cracking them open part took some time!

Vegetable & fruit juice – Celery, cucumber, carrot, beetroot, lime, apple, coriander and parsley mainly

Fish bone broth – sea bass or snapper

Almond or brazil nut milk

Green soups – avocado, cucumber juice, garlic, lemon, salt, coconut oil, cayenne

Green smoothie – spinach & mango

Herbal tea

Baked Kale

Pistachios

Water

There were maybe one or 2 other snacks that I can’t remember, but that was pretty much it.

I’m not going to give specific details on the amounts and my exact plan as I tailored it to me, so it’s not something I recommend anyone else follow to the letter and end up feeling terrible because it wasn’t tailored to them, so buyer beware!!!

How do I feel now?

Well, I finished this plan 2 days ago and here’s what I learned from it

  1. I’ve always wanted to live just on delicious juices for a short while, which I thought would be too difficult for more than a day , but I now know I can
  2. I realised that the bone broth I had, which is full of fat, minerals and trace elements, was perfect at getting rid of any hunger I did get
  3. I really thought I’d struggle at points and get hungry and crabby as I transitioned, but it didn’t happen, I pretty much sailed through it unscathed
  4. The green soups only lasted 2 days, I love them, but they didn’t work well for me during this plan
  5. I was doing daily coffee enemas and taking aloe vera, Psyllium husks and bentonite clay which I think really added to the success
  6. I’m still fully breastfeeding our son, whose now 1yr and 2 mths and when I change my diet in anyway, I always look at my breast milk production as a sign of whether it’s working or not, and there was no change during the plan or any reaction in him, so thumbs up
  7. There was one drawback. I wanted to use this time to rest and I was convinced I’d have no energy so I didn’t plan any work in the evenings. But even from the first night, I had bags of energy and found it difficult to switch off and go to sleep, it took about 3 nights for me to actually get tired before midnight, that’s definitely not what I expected.
  8. If I do it again, I will definitely exercise daily and sleep and wake with the sun as much as possible.

So that was my week, I’m going to move onto the next phase of it starting tomorrow with 1 big meal and 1 snack a day with the nut milk, bone broth and herbal teas still there.

As it’s getting colder, the high water vegetable juices are going to take a back seat for now.

I’m looking forward to enjoying some baked salmon and sweet potato, mushroom and spinach omelettes and falafel, humus and grain free tabouli this week

See you all soon

Take care and stay healthy

Leah

Get the recipe to the fish bone broth I made here http://naturalyou.ning.com/profiles/blogs/how-to-make-fish-stock - I used vinegar not wine in my version, and I used palm oil too.
