Happy Birthday Mum

Today, 8th Jan is my mum's birthday!!!

She never celebrates it as she ALWAY works on the day

She's a nurse and I'm sure she thinks the hospital will close if she doesn't go into work!!!

She's by all accounts very good at her job and despite her complaints, she seems to love it.

As one on my all time role models, I've learnt so many lessons from my mother, Jennifer David (her surname is where I got the first part of Davidel from).

She has always been the hardest working person I know and as a result of her hard work she has always provided for her children. No matter what she went through (and she went through a LOT of hard and horrible situations when we were young) her hard work managed to mask it all

She's incredibly stubborn, if you tell her she can't do or have something, in her mind it's already done and the world will very soon see it manifest.

Alongside this, she can also find an answer to most problems she's faced with, I don't think I've ever seen her stressed, tired yes, stressed and in a flap, never.

She's got a wonderful sense of humour, whether it's entertaining her grandchildren who adore her or making fun of me and brother, she can normally see the funny side of things.

I was petrified of the look she gave me when I did something wrong when I was younger, to the point that she never had to hit me to discipline me, the threat and look was enough

Education and development was so important to her, I remember doing dictionary work on the weekends, she would literally open the children's dictionary and tell me to learn the page by the time she got back. We always had textbooks and workbooks we used when we weren't at school and when it came to our secondary education, she miraculously, on a nurse's salary, put all 3 of us through private tutors then a private secondary school.

She would also make sure we pursued our interests, my older brother got every computer he wanted, my sister and I went to ice skating lessons for years, we had guitars, trumpets, karate suits, rugby balls, tennis rackets, hockey sticks, sewing machines and more all provided for us (though like most children, our interest wasn't always long lasting)

There is probably so much more that's just part of me now that I'm forgetting.

From these examples she set, now:

Working long hours to achieve a goal is normal for me
I hate being told I can't do something, I can be like dog with lock jaw at times
I know there's always a way to get what you want, you just have to find it
I think I have a good sense of humour and can see the sunnier side of almost every situation
I've almost perfected 'the look' with my children
I homeschool my children, plan to continue homeschooling as long as possible and continually find ways to develop my own skills and my children's

Our relationship is not as affectionate as some mothers, and I don't get to see her as often as I'd like as she's always working, but in many ways, I do feel very loved and grateful to her.

Happy birthday mum

Love Leah
